As football season begins for the Oregon Ducks, so too does football season begin in earnest for high school players around the nation. This is when recruiting really begins to pick up for Oregon. Known to be “stingy” with early offers, Chip Kelly likes to evaluate some prospects as seniors before offering. The Oregon coaching staff will have more opportunity to evaluate high school seniors now that their seasons have begun. This past weekend, Oregon fans watched Marcus Mariota play his first game as the Oregon starter. Had Coach Kelly been set on early offers there is a chance Mariota may never have made it to Eugene. For Duck fans, it is a good thing that Coach Kelly waited for senior film before making up his mind on offers! Today we continue our weekly series intended to rank some of the most talked about players on Oregon’s recruiting board. During each week of the season we will look at a different position and the “Top Trio” at the position. The players we focus on will be players that may or may not be currently committed to Oregon. The main factors for choosing which players we discuss will be need, buzz and interest; but not necessarily in that order. Any and all opinions of these articles are purely that of Duck Sports Authority and do not reflect the opinions or thoughts of the Oregon coaching staff The next position we will discuss is one that Oregon appears to be very deep at: Wide receiver. Oregon has a commitment from Darren Carrington early in this recruiting cycle, but are active in looking to sign a more wide receivers for the class of 2013. The Oregon depth chart took a hit when Tacoi Sumler chose to transfer in the off-season. In addition, the Ducks lose one senior wide receiver to graduation after 2012.
# | NAME | POS. | STARS | HT/WT/40 | HOMETOWN | VIDEO |
1 | Robert Foster | WR | 6’3″/170/– | Monaca, PA | ||
WHO: Robert Foster is the eighth ranked wide receiver in the nation. With good size at 6-3, 170, foster is the size receiver that coach Scott Frost has favored since his arrival at Oregon. Foster is ranked as the number 2 football player in the state of Pennsylvania and the 70th overall player in the nation by Rivals.com.
WHERE: Foster has indicated that location is not a factor, but the early thoughts are that he will stay in the Eastern region with Alabama and Pitt early contenders. Do not count out Oregon. If they are able to get a visit, Foster may be impressed enough with the academics and coaching relationships to make the move out West. |
